WWE Hall Of Famer Edge is undoubtedly one of the most popular Superstars in the company’s history and he has done it all as far as being a pro wrestler is concerned.
He has competed in several iconic matches, pioneering the TLC matches and many others. Edge has also faced the top talents in all of WWE and that includes his feud with John Cena.
Edge and John Cena’s feud during the early to late 2000s was a highlight of WWE television. However, it seems the feud wasn’t initially going to last so long.
While speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, Edge talked about his feud with John Cena. Edge stated that his feud with Cena was never expected to last more than three weeks. However, due to the popularity of the feud, it was rebooted many times.
“When I got to John, and we kind of got on the same page, and he realized what I was out to do, which was just that, to make him superman,” Edge added. “And once we both had that understanding, then we were off and running because I don’t think that program was supposed to last more than three weeks, and after WrestleMania 22, I got to work Mick, who is another guy that just did so much for my career.
“Then they circled back to John and I because I think it had worked so good in that three weeks, the ratings went up and all those things, you know. Website hits, and everything went through the roof, so it was like, ‘Go back to that.’ And then once they went back to us, I think we ran for about a year and a half after that, just night in, night out. They rebooted again after, and then again, and we’d end up on SmackDown, and you know, it kept going.”
Edge is set to face off against Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at the WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view on July 18th. We wonder if he will have another program with John Cena in the future.
