Murphy was released from WWE after months of them not using him. He still had ideas, but the company rejected them all. They even botched his name change after he provided a great explanation for why he wanted to sacrifice the “Buddy” name for Seth Rollins’ Greater Good.

While speaking with Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Murphy admitted that Paul Heyman advocating for him backstage might have worked against him. He also revealed a pitch that he had to become an associate of Heyman’s on SmackDown, but that didn’t fly either.

Triple H loved the idea of using Murphy in this way, but that didn’t help move things along and the pitch was rejected.

“I had this really cool story idea that I pitched to Heyman, who loved it. I even mentioned it to The Usos, who loved it. It was basically to get me as like a – not a part of the Bloodline, but to be an associate of Paul (Heyman). I don’t take orders from Roman (Reigns) but I do his bidding because Heyman asked me (to do so). It was like a sub story on the side of Heyman.”

“And I’d be like a Judge Dredd, so I was going to be a mixture. Big Boss Man, Judge Dredd for Heyman. Heyman loved it, and I ended up having a conversation with Hunter (Triple H) while he was at a SmackDown taping and just mentioned to him that I pitched this idea to Heyman, (Triple H) loved it. We’ll see where that goes and I understand it needs to go through a particular ranking, get it approved by Vince,”

We’ll never know what could have happened if Murphy was allowed into the Bloodline’s storyline. This is an idea that could have re-sparked his push in WWE, but it never came to pass. Now Buddy Murphy is on to his next chapter and he seems excited about the possibilities.

Murphy has already been announced for his first match on the indies where he will wrestle AEW star Brian Cage. That is just the beginning for Murphy as he attempts to leave WWE in the rear view mirror.
