WWE is hitting the road once again, but they won’t be inviting as many local wrestlers to their events when they do. This is yet another instance of WWE going out of their way to save money.

It was previously reported that WWE is nixing their extras. They will only have about two people backstage to use as extras now when they used to have several more available to them.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer spoke about this subject. He said that WWE booked a bunch of indie wrestlers in Texas for their shows, but then they called those wrestlers back and unbooked them. “Budget cuts” was given as the reason that WWE won’t need extras backstage anymore. That could put WWE in a difficult situation if those extras are needed.

‘”We’re talking about savings of so little money. The fact that they’re calling them up to unbook them, you know because, like it’s good to have extras, you know what I mean? To unbook them, because who knows if Vince is going to need someone on the day of the show to take bumps? They’re unbooking them so it’s like, so you’re saving $1,500 for a bunch of guys? $1,500 a week? The bottom line at the end of the year, you wouldn’t even notice it. There must be something going on, because it’s not like it’s New Japan Pro-Wrestling where you’re fighting to break even because of the pandemic, because these guys are having record profits.”

It was previously noted that WWE nixed Bobby Lashley’s ladies as well. They simply didn’t want to worry about finding those women while they traveled to new cities.

We’ll have to see if WWE changes up some of their methods when it comes to shooting backstage angles and other things when they hit the road. They are not going to have the extras around to play security guards and other parts like they used to. At least the company is able to save a little bit of money out of the deal.
