Vince McMahon has his own reasons for everything, and there is a list of words he doesn’t want spoken on WWE television. He arrived at this list in different ways, but each word has a pretext that he doesn’t want associated with the product. Whether you’re talking about the word “wrestling” or “title shot,” Vince McMahon has other words he wants spoken instead.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed some of WWE’s banned words. He also shared a funny anecdote about the banned word “belt” and how little sense it makes, especially since Triple H figured out that it’s not a word with its roots in Southern Wrestling.
“Leveque was watching boxing and they talk about belts, you know, and it’s kinda like he realized that it’s not a freaking Southern Wrestling term, it’s a freaking sports term, but it doesn’t matter because the word belt has been banned for a long time, sometimes guys sneak it in. Some days they ok it, but some days it isn’t.”
It really makes no sense for WWE to continue with their ban of the word “belt,” but it continues. If you hear the word on WWE television then it is a very special circumstance and odds are the person saying it has a bit of clout to their name as well. This will likely continue as a word that Vince McMahon doesn’t want to hear despite it being banned for really no reason.
What’s your take on Vince McMahon’s list of banned words? Which word makes the least sense? Sound off in the comments!
