Corey Graves was set to become a top name in NXT, but then concussions sidelined him and ended his in-ring career far too early. He hit the commentary table and started a grind that eventually saw him receive a main roster call-up anyway. Now he is a voice on the company’s weekly television shows.
During a recent episode of Table Talk, Byron Saxton spoke about Corey Graves and compared him to the greats. Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura and Bobby Heenan are considered greats by many fans and Saxton says that The Savior of Misbehavior is right up there with them.
“I think when you look at all the — and there’s been so many greats but when you look at Jesse and Bobby and all these great color guys, The King [Jerry Lawler], who have been in this company, you know, Corey is right up there. He is so talented, he is so witty and it’s a blessing for this company to have someone as talented as he is and I’m very fortunate I’ve been able to work with him as long as I have.”
We’ll have to see where Corey Graves ends up in WWE history when all the cards are laid out at the end of his career. He is certainly headed in the right direction to become a name associated with commentary for the rest of history. Only time will tell if he’s considered up there with the greats, but Byron Saxton certainly sees big things in him.
