The current WWE product has a lot of flaws including 50/50 booking, feuds that don’t go anywhere, teams splitting up for no reason and there being multiple rematches for no proper reason. All of this has led to fans simply being tired of the company and the disinterest of the fans is reflected in the dwindling ratings of both main roster shows over the past few years.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics recently took to Twitter and revealed that 57% of matches on Monday Night RAW in the past year were rematches. 54% of matches on Friday Night Smackdown in the past year were also rematches. NXT stood at 31% of matches being against the same opponents.
On the other hand, AEW Dynamite has had only 10% of its matches in the past year being rematches, which is certainly a solid number. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Tony Khan reacted to this statistic as he stated that Khan takes pride as a booker that there are rarely any rematches on AEW Dynamite.
“This is a cool stat. I take a lot of pride as a booker that there are rarely rematches on Dynamite and that when there are, it’s usually a very important story payoff like the Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa lights out match.”
AEW strives to produce the best product possible and while they have a lot of room for improvement, reducing the number of rematches is certainly a step in the right direction. We wonder if WWE will do the same one day or not.
