WWE can offer a lot of opportunities for Superstars, but not everyone is guaranteed to have a long career in the company. That is true for most people, they are lucky to even get a chance to perform under Vince McMahon’s bright spotlights.
While talking to Chris Featherstone, former WWE Superstar and Vickie Guerrero’s on-screen love interest, Eric Escobar, now Eric Alexander, explained why he became a police officer after leaving WWE. He went back to Puerto Rico and there were not enough opportunities to make a legit living in pro wrestling. That is when he started doing security. It didn’t take him long to look for an upgrade and he found a natural fit in being a cop.
“Well, after WWE, I kept wrestling. I went back to Puerto Rico. I kept wrestling over there, and, well, sadly, in Puerto Rico, those days of making a living from pro wrestling are long gone. So you always had to get jobs on the side. So I had a, I was working security for Homeland security, and the pay was just enough to cover the bills, basically. I was like, ‘Man; I need something.’ There was an ad for, umm, that they were going to come to Puerto Rico to recruit. I was like, ‘Ha!’ It went in tune with the whole security thing. It was a step-up from the whole security thing, and you know, I applied, it was a long process, and I ended up getting it,” recalled Escobar.
He still uses his pro wrestling training as a police officer, explaining that “certain individuals” might call for him to use that experience in a pinch. There is still no word on whether he’s allowed to use folding chairs on his suspects.
“I mean, the wrestling always comes in handy when you have to deal with certain individuals and all that. I have requested some folding chairs in the area, so just in case something happens,.”
WWE isn’t the end of the world, and there is life after the company. Many former talents find other callings in life, and that is also why it’s important to have a backup even before stepping into the pro wrestling world. Thankfully, Escobar was able to find a gig that fit his skills nicely.
