WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross is a veteran in the pro wrestling world, as he made a name for himself being a commentator in WWE and delivering some of the most iconic moments in the history of pro wrestling.
The Wednesday Night Wars between WWE and AEW began in October 2019 as AEW Dynamite and NXT went head-to-head every week in order to see who would come out the better show. AEW Dynamite would win in the ratings war for the majority of the time. The Wars finally came to an end in April after NXT moved to Tuesday nights.
While speaking on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast, Jim Ross was asked about Vince McMahon’s decision to have NXT move to Tuesday nights. Ross stated that he was sure Vince McMahon got very angry after AEW defeated NXT in ratings for most of the weeks.
“For the growth of the NXT brand and their ongoing relationship with NBC Universal, logically speaking and taking personalities and emotions out of it, it was the best thing for them to do. It was the best thing for their relationship and building a bigger audience. The fans don’t have to make a choice. I’m sure it pissed him off to read every week — we didn’t beat them every week — but more weeks than not we were the number one watched wrestling show on Wednesday nights. I know he didn’t take that in a good way. He’s very competitive and he’s used to being the bull in the woods, doing whatever he wants to do, and winning. On Wednesday nights against us, they weren’t winning on a regular basis. I’m sure that bothered him to some degree. At the end of the day, it was the right decision to make for everyone involved,”
We will have to see how both companies will improve their product for fans and if AEW will one day have an all-out war with WWE. At this point in time, it is highly unlikely AEW will do anything to affect WWE.
