AEW has two singles titles, and they are both carried by heels. Kenny Omega is still the AEW World Champion after defeating Jungle Boy this week on AEW Dynamite. Next week’s episode of Dynamite will also do a lot to help build toward the future of the company.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer broke down the upcoming MJF vs Sammy Guevara match. He proposed that Guevara should win the match. Not only does Sammy need a win as a babyface, but MJF can also stand to suffer a loss. His record is incredible in AEW so far, and with Kenny Omega as a strong heel AEW Champion it’s not likely that a title shot will come the Salt of the Earth’s way any time soon.
“That match is real important, and like I said Sammy should win because MJF hasn’t lost a match in–MJF’s only lost one match in the entire time in the company and he’s not getting a title shot probably with Omega as champion, so that’s months and months. So, it’s time for MJF to lose, so it’s time for Sammy to get that win.”
AEW could always surprise fans by letting Guevara and MJF have a barnburner of a match and then send in three hundred people to invade the finish and cause chaos to erupt. We’ll have to see what’s down the line, but MJF is a hardcore heel and Kenny Omega likely won’t be put against him any time soon.
MJF has Chris Jericho to deal with, and it was pointed out that MJF will certainly get many wins prior to the time when he steps in the ring with the World Champion, whoever it is at the time. It was said that it is unlikely Kenny Omega will defend the title against MJF as a heel vs heel situation.
Sammy Guevara and MJF are the future of AEW and they will likely have many matches to come. It makes the most sense for The Spanish God to win this next battle, but Tony Khan has his own way of storytelling.
