The COVID-19 pandemic took over the entire world last year and that includes the pro wrestling world as several promotions were severely affected, leading to a lot of changes in plans. WWE in particular had to change up plans and no longer have a live audience in attendance for their shows.
For the most part shows would take place in front of empty arenas for many promotions and many fans and pro wrestlers simply did not feel it was a good experience.
While speaking to Renee Paquette on Oral Sessions, WWE Hall Of Famer Lita talked about her interest in watching pro wrestling during the pandemic era. Lita stated that pro wrestling in empty eras simply isn’t the craft that she loves.
“I go in phases. I had a very hard time at the start of the pandemic when it was like sound stage wrestling. I was like, I can’t do this. I felt bad for people that I knew. I don’t know if they felt bad. They could have been perfectly fine [with it]. I was like, this isn’t for me. This isn’t the craft that I love.
And then, you know, gearing up towards WrestleMania, and things started to feel slightly more normal. I am checking back in a little bit more regularly. I always enjoy it, but when I know I need a break, I just check out.”
WWE is set to have live crowds in attendance next month, beginning with the Houston live events and there is no doubt many fans and WWE Superstars will be elated at their return. We will have to see how the live events turn out to be.
