WWE likes to lock down names that appear on their television shows, because they don’t want anyone else cashing in on what they put on TV. This includes the black and gold brand and now one NXT Superstar has a brand new name.

The company has taken away Karissa Rivera’s name and given her a new one. They have also locked that new name down with a recent trademark according to Heel By Nature.

Elektra Lopez is Rivera’s new name. This trademark was filed on June 21st and then entered into the database on June 24th. Now WWE has ownership of that name so the obstacle is cleared in getting Lopez on television to receive more exposure under her new moniker.

Rivera is still the current Wrestling Superstar Women’s Champion, a title she has held for 580 days and counting. Odds are since she signed with NXT they won’t give her a chance to travel back and drop that title.

Lopez lost to Franky Monet on NXT this week in the former Taya Valkyrie’s second world premier on the NXT brand. Karissa Rivera gained a fair amount of exposure under that name, but she will have many more fans know her as Elektra Lopez now.

What’s your take on WWE changing up NXT Superstar names? Would you keep them the way they are? Sound off in the comments!
