Since its inception in 2019, AEW has strived to provide a proper alternative product to WWE. For the most part, they have succeeded but there are still many areas of improvement.

The arrival of AEW certainly shook the pro wrestling world to its core as it was the first time in almost two decades that a pro wrestling company set itself as a form of competition for WWE. The last pro wrestling company to do that was WCW, which ultimately went out of business.

While speaking to Forbes Magazine, AEW President Tony Khan talked about the change in the pro wrestling world. Tony Khan added that he was glad WCW failed as it created a vacancy for AEW to come in and succeed.

‘I’m glad that WCW failed because it created a vacancy for us to come in and succeed, but it made it a fairly bleak period for the wrestling business.”

Tony Khan had previously stated that he doesn’t want AEW to be another pro wrestling company from the past. Khan has put a lot of investment into AEW, including an 8-figure investment for video games. We will have to see if all his investment will bear fruit eventually.
