Since its inception in 2019, AEW has strived to provide a proper alternative product to WWE. For the most part, they have succeeded but there are still many areas of improvement.

AEW took the world by storm back in 2019 as it was the first pro wrestling company in a very long time that made waves in the pro wrestling world as a form of competition for WWE. It was certainly a risky endeavor as well because there was always the chance it was going to end up being a huge failure.

While speaking to Forbes, Tony Khan’s father Shahid Khan talked about AEW, where he admitted that AEW did not seem like a good idea at all in the beginning.

“I absolutely didn’t think this was a good idea. But I told Tony, ‘Look, when I’m dead and gone, I’m going to be leaving you and your sister a lot of money. Why don’t you blow some of that while I’m alive?’

Of course, Shahid Khan was very surprised to learn that AEW would become a huge success all over the world. Last year, AEW received $43.75 million in rights fees from Turner as well. While AEW certainly has a lot of room for improvement, they are definitely on the right path and the investment turned out to pay back in dividends.
