Samoa Joe is on his way back to WWE, but he won’t be on RAW or SmackDown. The former RAW announcer will be coming back to NXT. This will presumably include Samoa Joe taking over for William Regal’s role as commissioner.
We previously reported that Samoa Joe was not backstage during NXT TakeOver: In Your House. That is expected to change for NXT shows from this point on. He is coming back to WWE’s black and gold brand.
Fightful Select, who originally broke Joe’s return to NXT, reported an additional note about the former NXT Champion’s return to his old stomping grounds. There is a plan in place as to how Joe will be used, but both sides are “open to expansion” if all sides agree to the situation.
We’re told there’s a plan in order already for what Joe will do in NXT, but that role is open to expansion if all parties agree.
Samoa Joe was not medically cleared upon his release from WWE. It is unknown if Joe could eventually get back in the ring for NXT. Right now he will be in a non-wrestling role, likely as William Regal’s on-screen replacement.
No matter what happens to William Regal, Triple H has already made it clear that he is a valuable piece to NXT and he’s not leaving the company.
