WWE released quite a few Superstars back in April and that included Samoa Joe, which certainly took both fans and pro wrestlers by surprise as Joe proved himself to be one of the best pro wrestlers in the current era of pro wrestling.
However, as reported earlier, there is also the chance that Samoa Joe could return to NXT. This can happen before his 90-day non-compete clause expires.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that William Regal saying “it’s time for a change” at the end of TakeOver: In Your House signified Samoa Joe’ return to NXT.
“So, I think that’s the cue for Samoa Joe. I don’t know that 100%. I was told today that Samoa Joe was gonna be in a Regal-like role, then all of a sudden Regal’s talking like he’s stepping down, so maybe the Regal-like role is Regal’s role. But if he’s leaving, based on what I was told, Samoa Joe was definitely the favorite to be the new Commissioner. But Joe is in, and he’s in as a non-wrestler, so I think that tells you that he’s not cleared.
He’s taken a job in NXT and he’s doing something there, and he may be the new authority figure on television, or he may not be. But he’s gonna be behind-the-scenes.”
It was previously reported that WWE is open to a variety of roles for Samoa Joe in NXT. We will have to see if Samoa Joe will make his return on NXT television on the upcoming episode.
