Eric Bischoff is a veteran in the pro wrestling business and is undoubtedly one of the greatest minds to have ever worked in it. He is well aware of the changing landscape of pro wrestling as well.
He especially made a name for himself as the Executive Producer and Senior Vice President of WCW in the 90s. Bischoff was also was responsible for making nWo one of the greatest factions in the history of pro wrestling, for better or for worse.
While speaking to The Angle Podcast, the WWE Hall Of Famer talked about factions in the modern pro wrestling world. Bischoff stated that they are overdone and simple pale in comparison to the nWo.
“I wouldn’t even attempt it. Everyone’s been trying to recreate the NWO since the NWO. You just can’t man. The good news is the NWO will go down as one of the best storylines/factions in the history of the wrestling business. NWO merchandise is one of the highest selling items in the WWE catalog. The bad news is, every effort that keeps coming along pale in comparison, and I think the only way to overcome that is to just let it rest. Let’s just not have any more factions for a few years so that when one comes along it feels fresh, and not like an attempt to be like the NWO. Everything gets compared to it.”
There is certainly truth to what Eric Bischoff stated, as in promotions like AEW, there are quite a few factions and some simply don’t feel as polished as others. We wonder whether factions as a whole will be stopped for a while.
