CM Punk Believes Roman Reigns’ Current Character Is ‘Five Years Late’ From WWE

Roman Reigns is the current WWE Universal Champion and is one of the top Superstars in the company right now. He has proven himself to be an excellent champion with great character work and in-ring skills.

Roman Reigns’ reinvention as a heel has truly shown just how good he can be both as an in-ring performer and character. Roman Reigns was outright rejected by the WWE Universe when he was pushed as a top babyface for several years.

While speaking on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast, CM Punk talked about Roman Reigns’ character in WWE, where he praised his character and in-ring work. CM Punk added that WWE should have let Reigns be a heel long ago and that they are five years late on the matter.

“I think a lot of times the best stuff, you’ve also kind of just gotta go with the flow with it. I’ll use Roman Reigns as an example, because if we’re talking about good stuff, if the WWE does anything good, I mean, this is the one thing that they’re doing right right now, right? Is Roman Reigns.

“His character work, his in-ring stuff. It’s all great but I feel like, classic WWE, they’re always five years, 10 years late. This is something that they should’ve done originally, because they tried so hard to get this guy over as a babyface and they gave him X amount of ‘Mania main events. Like, ‘This is the guy, this is the guy, this is the guy,’ and he never really had his moments until now.”

Roman Reigns has been the WWE Universal Champion for 281 days and it is unlikely he will be dropping the title anytime soon. The company is also planning a Roman Reigns vs Rey Mysterio match for the WWE Hall In A Cell pay-per-view this month.
