Hikaru Shida is one of the mainstays of the women’s division in AEW and is one of the most talented female pro wrestlers in the world right now. She was the AEW Women’s Champion for well over a year after winning the title from Nyla Rose at Double or Nothing last year.
On last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, the Spanish announce team’s microphones were left on and their conversation could be heard during the commercial break on Fite TV.
Willie Urbina mocked Hikaru Shida’s Japanese accent by using a very stereotypical and offensive imitation of her. Due to his unprofessional behavior, he was fired by AEW soon after. Tony Khan also recently revealed that he personally apologized to Hikaru Shida for Urbina’s racist mockery of her accent.
Now it seems Shida herself addressed Urbina’s racist action as she took to Twitter and revealed that she doesn’t give a damn what other people say about her race. Shida added that she doesn’t even feel any anger and that fans shouldn’t worry about her.
I didn’t wanna talk about this before my big day, so let me tell you now. I don’t give a shit what other people say about my race because I love it and I proud of it, and because I know which is fool. I don’t even feel anger. So don’t need to worry about me. Thank you.
It is certainly great that Hikaru Shida didn’t let Urbina’s actions get to her. We will have to see what is next in store for Shida as it is likely she will want a rematch with Britt Baker for the AEW Women’s Title.
