WWE has a writing team full of people who pen whatever Vince McMahon and other higher-ups command of them. It is also important for the writers to understand the Superstars that they are writing for. Vince McMahon has apparently made a decision about hiring indie wrestlers and he won’t do that again.
Jimmy Jacobs was famously fired after he took a selfie with The Elite. This was after they did that invasion stunt in the parking lot next to a WWE event. Jacobs is now with Impact Wrestling, but he also sees what is going on in WWE.
While speaking to the TWC Show, Jimmy Jacobs explained why Vince McMahon won’t hire another former indie wrestler after him. Jacobs was able to connect with the roster in a different way, and he believes that another indie wrestler will never get another shot after him.
“Yeah, well certainly I had a certain aptitude for the storytelling nature of wrestling. You know, I was the first wrestler to really be a writer there. There were other guys on the creative team like, let’s say Road Dogg or something but he’s not getting into the weeds, like putting pen to paper and so I was the first one to do that. Now look, it [independent wrestling background] helped in I knew a lot of the guys, I was friends with a lot of the guys and they trusted me which is helpful. It’s helpful to have a relationship with the talent where they want to collaborate with you and they want your ideas as well, and yeah, I think it helped me. I think that Vince [McMahon] will never, ever, ever hire another independent wrestler to be on the writing team again after I got fired so, so it goes.”
Vince McMahon and his crew of hand-picked members of his personal inner circle might not be too thrilled about bringing on another indie wrestler. They know the business and could provide exciting ideas, but that’s not what WWE wants apparently. That is why WWE looks to other areas of entertainment when deciding on new additions for their creative team.
Would WWE be better if a bunch of former indie wrestlers were in the writers room? Sound off in the comments!
