AEW signed a new deal with WarnerMedia that will see their programming hit TBS in 2022. They are still on TNT and dealing with the NBA Playoffs. That is why AEW has to change up their schedule in a big way.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained AEW’s current situation on TNT. June will consist of a lot of changes. Fans will have to figure out when Dynamite is being played due to the NBA Playoffs forcing AEW out of their usual timeslot.
“So there is a show in late June that’s going to be a on Saturday and obviously this week is Friday night at 10. I think the next week is Friday night at 10, but it’s possible that could change. There is a late June date on a Saturday. They’re just getting bounced around. That’s just how it’s gonna be. I mean that’s one of the reasons they did the move to TBS.”
AEW won’t have their normal timeslot back until July, but their fans are very passionate about the product and will likely track them down. That changing timeslot will still distract some casual viewers. Hopefully, they can regain the viewership they lost once returning to Wednesdays at 8:00 PM EST in July.
All Elite Wrestling will also hit the road in July once again. That is perfect timing for their return to Wednesdays. They won’t have to worry about being preempted as much at all once that TBS move goes through in 2022.
