AEW’s new television show, AEW Rampage, will debut in August, but the company wants to get fans used to watching wrestling at 10:00 PM on a Friday night. The next episode of Dynamite will be preempted by the NBA Playoffs, and AEW is using that as an opportunity to air a show in their future weekly timeslot.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed AEW’s move to Friday night at 10:00 PM for the next Dynamite. He said that AEW is conditioning their fans to that timeslot, and this was a good way to do that.
“This is actually one of the reasons why the preemption stuff has been moved to Friday at 10 is to help kinda like familiarize people for that timeslot. So, that is actually part of the reason for not running it on Thursday or not running it on Saturday. It’s to get the Friday night thing going.”
AEW Rampage is set to debut on August 13th on TNT at 10 PM. It is unknown why Rampage isn’t just debuting on TBS, because both Dynamite and Rampage will move to TBS in 2022.
We will have to see how many fans tune in to see Dynamite at 10:00 PM next week. AEW Rampage’s set-up hasn’t been revealed. We are not sure if it will be a pure wrestling show or something else completely, as they have hinted in the past.
Next week’s viewership for Dynamite might be a good indication of how many fans will tune in on TNT. Everything is up in the air when it comes to how many fans will watch on TBS, because any change is sure to lose viewers who are creatures of habit.
