AEW made headlines as they confirmed a third hour on WarnerMedia and a second show. The company will also move both Dynamite and Rampage to TBS in 2022. This will make way for the NBA and NHL to have reign over TNT, but AEW will still get four yearly specials.
A lot of fans wondered if this new deal between AEW and WarnerMedia would come with more time on their contract. That is not the case. PW Insider has confirmed that the deal will only extend until December 2023, the original expiration date.
Their deal didn’t extend in terms of time, but this expanded presence on WarnerMedia will not be a bad thing.
As of now, AEW’s current deal runs through December 2023.
The belief within the company is that their new agreement, with three hours on TBS starting January 2022 and several specials a year on TNT will only increase their footprint going forward and is being seen as a positive.
AEW might find themselves with a big money deal in 2023 when time comes to talk about a new contract. TV negotiations take a long time and they can be pretty complicated. We’ll have to see how everything pans out between AEW and WarnerMedia, but the two sides seem to be enjoying a mutually beneficial relationship so far.
