WWE’s WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view was a night full of good wrestling matches, and then there were zombies. Many fans elected to talk about that zombie invasion, an Army Of The Dead tie-in, rather than the stellar main event of Roman Reigns vs Cesaro. WWE might not mind that at all, because they got paid either way.

Ringside News has learned that WWE President Nick Khan spearheaded the sponsorship from Zack Snyder’s ‘Army Of The Dead’ film. This was a massive deal as well.

We were told that WWE got “big money” out of the agreement which saw zombies surround the ring in that lumberjack match. In the end, WWE received “7 figures from Warner Bros.”

WWE was critically panned for bringing zombies into the mix at WrestleMania Backlash. Mainstream media also chimed in as The New York Post noted that “many will remember this one for the terrible, cheap-plug zombies.” That might be true, but it was still a money-making endeavor for WWE.

They used WWE for promotional purposes with that lumberjack match. It might have been considered a “cheap plug,” but it cost Warner Bros a ton of cash to get that much airtime on a WWE pay-per-view.

Sadly, The Miz was injured during that lumberjack match with Damian Priest. We have not heard any updates on the extent of his apparent ACL injury.

Zack Snyder’s Army Of The Dead, starring Dave Bautista, debuted on Netflix today. You can click here to check out a trailer of Batista fighting zombies in Las Vegas.
