WWE made several cuts to the NXT brand this week, but this was something they were planning for weeks. As of this writing, no new releases are planned, but you also never know what can happen when you’re talking about Vince McMahon’s company.
According to PW Insider, WWE had been planning to release NXT talent for three weeks. That is when the initial plan for cuts came down. This doesn’t necessarily line up with the main roster’s April 15th releases, but it is close.
We are also told the initial plan was for cuts to come about three weeks ago but the decision was made to wait.
WWE brought in the largest Performance Center class company history recently. They obviously needed to make room. Some cuts, like Drake Wuertz, weren’t huge surprises. Others shocked the NXT locker room.
Interestingly enough, Drake Wuertz’s Wikipedia entry was edited in recent memory to note that he was fired for his political views. That first-time Wikipedia editor’s location was Seminole County Florida.
It appears that WWE is done releasing NXT talent for now, but we will continue monitoring this ongoing situation as more information is made available.
Will any of the released NXT talent end up in AEW? Sound off in the comments!
