WrestleMania Backlash saw Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik Mysterio team up to face off against Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships.

Despite the odds being stacked against them due to an unforeseen attack at the hands of Ziggler and Roode prior to the match, Rey and Dominik persevered and beat Ziggler and Roode for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles.

The two would make history as the first-ever father/son tag team champions in the company. Fans and Superstars alike celebrated their historic victory and also Rey Mysterio’s wife Angie and daughter Aalyah.

While speaking to ESPN SportsNation, Mysterio and his son Dominik talked about their huge WrestleMania Backlash win. Rey Mysterio was asked to compare him winning the tag team titles with his son to his other past accomplishments in his career. Rey Mysterio said that his win with Dominik is on a different level compared to past accomplishments.

“I don’t take anything away from all my accomplishments in the past, but it’s on a different level, the fact that I’ve shared the ring with Dom and have become the first father and son Tag Team Champions. It’s indescribable. He’s been doing it since he was a kid. We did a story with Eddie Guerrero, rest in peace, when he was eight years old. It was already cemented within him that one day he would be part of this great industry and now here we are. He’s a great listener in the ring and a great follower. Now he has to get better in time.”

We will have to see how The Mysterios’ tag team title run will be booked as it is likely Roode and Ziggler will want their rematch for the titles. Till then we wonder whether the company will give Rey and Dominik Mysterio a solid run with the Smackdown Tag Team Titles.
