AEW announced that a new show is coming in August. AEW: Rampage will be the company’s new hour-long show, but WarnerMedia wanted that extra hour tacked onto Dynamite. Thankfully, Tony Khan refused. The new show will still be just as important as the company’s flagship program.
Rampage will be an hour-long Friday night show, but it will still have plenty of importance. They will not treat this new addition to their programming lineup like a secondary show at all.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan made it very clear that the Friday night time slot is very good for them. They want to keep fans watching wrestling and get them to switch from SmackDown on Fox to AEW: Rampage. That means Ramage will be considered equal to its two-hour partner, AEW Dynamite.
“This time slot I think is really good for the fans to keep a great night for wrestling fresh on Friday nights. So at 10 p.m. you’re going to have a great option to come watch Rampage. And I promise you Rampage isn’t going to be a secondary show. Rampage is going to be the partner of Dynamite, the equivalent of Dynamite. We have these two strong franchises in Dynamite and Rampage and they are our weekly core properties.”
It’s unclear what kind of angles they will run on AEW: Rampage, because the debut is still a few months away. AEW is very likely to do some big things to capture fan attention, because that’s how things are done.
AEW has teased a third hour on WarnerMedia for a while now. Rampage will get a serious focus, but we will have to see how things pan out in the months to come.
Are you excited about AEW: Rampage? Is there too much pro wrestling on television as it is? Sound off in the comments!
