WWE cut Drake Wuertz from the NXT roster and many backstage have already weighed in on his departure. There is a lot to unpack in this situation, to say the least.
According to Fightful Select, many backstage in NXT were hesitant to speak on the record about Drake in the past few weeks. The general idea is that Wuertz brought “nuclear heat brought on by himself” for “the better part of a year.”
That heat includes WWE having to “warn” him about attending events without a mask on while not being vaccinated. It was also reported that he was warned about “attempts for political plays.” It was said that Drake Wuertz would try to put himself over backstage to attain certain roles in the company.
The roster was well aware that Drake Wuertz had been trying to position himself for certain roles within the company, and was willing to try to put heat on others to get there, and attempted to numerous times.
Wuertz also made some people uncomfortable. It was reported that “no fewer than ten” NXT Superstars said that they didn’t feel comfortable or safe around him. He was also known to criticize wrestlers for getting vaccinated or getting flu shots.
It was previously reported that Drake Wuertz’s responsibilities within NXT had diminished in recent memory. Now he is no longer with the company. He will not likely stay silent, because Wuertz already has interviews lined to to continue speaking his mind and spreading his narrative.
As we previously reported, Drake Wuertz is already trying to get more work in the pro wrestling industry as a wrestler or referee. We will have to see where he ends up next.
