WWE released Drake Wuertz from his NXT contract today. This was not a huge surprise, because he was the source of a lot of controversy. He worked last night’s episode of NXT after missing the previous week so he could speak at a school board meeting against mask mandates, all the while he spouted unfounded QAnon conspiracy theories.
While Wuetz’s own Wikipedia page was edited last week to note that he was fired for political reasons, that was not confirmed. WWE gave “budget cuts” as the reason for every release today.
According to PW Insider, Drake Wuertz is already hitting the ground running. He has starting contacting promoters to let them know that he’s a free agent and ready to work.
Wuertz is looking to return to wrestling or officiating outside of WWE. We have been told he’s already contacting promoters to state he is a free agent.
Drake Wuertz used to be a deathmatch wrestler prior to WWE. We can’t post those videos here, because YouTube has age restrictions on them. If you search for Drake Younger’s previous CZW matches you won’t be disappointed.
We’ll have to see if Wuertz makes a return to the ring or finds his way into another referee shirt. Depending on where he goes he might be an incredible heel or an overwhelming babyface.
We will continue monitoring this ongoing story here at Ringside News just in case there are more releases today.
