AEW had a lot that they needed to get to this week in preparation for Double or Nothing on May 30th. The #1 contender match did not end as planned at all, but they had to make it work. That led to them doing something as a company they promised would never happen.

Orange Cassidy was knocked out during his #1 contender match with Pac. Then Kenny Omega came out in an audible and knocked Pac out with the AEW World Title. That led to a no-finish as neither man could finish the match.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained how AEW promised that they would never have a no-finish like that, especially in a big match. They still had to make things work.

“So Pac’s knocked out, Cassidy’s knocked out. It’s a double knock out. This is the first finish like that in the history of Dynamite and it is a finish that they vowed they would never do, but circumstances, you know, were beyond their control led them to this finish.”

This was not a screwjob finish, but it was certainly the kind of non-finish that AEW has tried hard to avoid. Now they have at least one of those finishes in the company’s history, but it was not according to plan at all.

Thankfully, Orange Cassidy seems to be okay now. It was still a scary moment on live television.

How would you have ended the match instead of a non-finish with Orange Cassidy knocked out? Sound off in the comments!
