WWE owns Bash at the Beach and they want to make sure that AEW can’t use it, or anyone else for that matter. The company laid down new trademarks on the term to make sure of that.
According to Heel By Nature, WWE filed two “identical trademarks” for Bash At The Beach with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This was registered on May 4th and entered into the database on May 7th. Both filings deal with merchandising such as clothing. They listed a ton of different clothing options in the filing as well.
The Bash At The Beach name has been the subject of a trademark battle. Cody Rhodes applied for trademarks on Superbrawl, Bunkhouse Stampede, Battlebowl, The Match Beyond, and Slamboree along with Bash At The Beach. His attempt to secure Bash At The Beach was rejected by the USPTO because it was too similar to WWE’s “The Bash” event.
AEW also held Bash At The Beach events, but those are no longer happening. It is believed that WWE and Cody come to an agreement where Rhodes gave up those trademarks, but WWE then allowed him to have his last name, something they owned a trademark on.
