Ex WWE Referee Says Orange Cassidy Is The ‘Epitome Of Sports Entertainment’

AEW shies away from the label of sports entertainment because WWE soured so many fans to the idea. If you ask Jimmy Korderas, Orange Cassidy fits the bill in every way.

During a recent Reffin’ Rant, the former WWE referee discussed Orange Cassidy’s character in AEW. He said that Freshly Squeezed is the “epitome of sports entertainment.” He has the fans’ attention and there is a reason for that, but you can’t say that AEW isn’t sports entertainment at the same time.

“There’s an audience out there who’s claiming, ‘We’re tired of Sports Entertainment. We want Pro Wrestling, kind of like what AEW gives us on Wednesday nights!’ And yes, I agree, their program is entertaining… But at the same time, you get a guy like Orange Cassidy. Orange Cassidy is the epitome of Sports Entertainment! You guys act like this guy is the greatest pro wrestler in the world. Same thing with a lot of their characters… Yes, they’ve got some hardcore guys, but at the same time, they’ve got tons of Sports Entertainment. Now, you can make the argument, ‘Hey, I like their brand of Sports Entertainment better than the other Sports Entertainment brand.’ That’s your preference. That’s fine. But don’t say ‘They don’t do Sports Entertainment’ because, guess what? Yes, they do!”

Orange Cassidy’s booking in AEW has been a very interesting thing to see. Now he has his own music, written by the Pixies, bought by Tony Khan. It seems that AEW will get the most of that music by the time Freshly Squeezed time is up. The big question is how far Cassidy will go in the company.
