WWE RAW is the longest running weekly episodic television show in history. They really like to make sure that fans know that. There was a big offer from the NFL that would have eliminated some competition.

While speaking to Wrestling Inc, Charlie Haas claimed that the NFL offered Vince McMahon millions of dollars to get them to move RAW off Mondays. This was prior to Nitro coming in and sparking the Monday Night Wars. The NFL apparently didn’t want competition against Monday Night Football.

“It was so popular that the NFL was going to pay WWF money just to move Monday Night RAW away so the ratings for the NFL and Monday Night Football would go back up. This is before Nitro got launched. The NFL was plummeting in the ratings because RAW was hot, really. They offered them a couple million to move it to another night, and they said no.”

WWE obviously didn’t take the NFL up on the offer. It is interesting to think about how different life would be now if WWE decided to give up Mondays decades ago for a couple of million dollars.
