Turner signed a huge seven-year deal to provide NHL games on TNT and TBS. We are still waiting on specifics regarding a lot of things, but AEW might have to switch around some plans as well.
Tony Khan already spoke about the possibility of AEW Dynamite moving off Wednesdays. They have a contract, so he’s not immediately worried about it. There is a possibility that the company’s planned second show is a different story.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was said that AEW’s second weekly show, a one-hour show that they’ve teased for over a year now, might have to change direction. It was supposed to be scheduled this fall. It was also noted that AEW Dynamite could be affected during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
However, this could affect the proposed second weekly AEW show, which was scheduled to begin in the fall. It also could affect AEW during the playoffs, as the NBA playoffs do, and force it to move time slots a few weeks a year and the NHL playoffs, at the same time, could also do the same.
Turner is getting three Stanley Cup Playoffs as part of this new deal as well. A lot of things need to come together before a new television show can start, especially a pro wrestling show. We’ll have to see if this recent NHL news affects AEW’s plans.
