WWE is looking to bring back live fans as soon as they can. Many within the company feel that they could bring back live fans now, but that hasn’t happened since WrestleMania.

SummerSlam is the next likely candidate for an event with live fans once again. No date has been announced for the event, but it will very likely be held in August.

The company is eyeing a couple of big cities including Phoenix, Arizona and somewhere in Texas. Last year’s SummerSlam location, Boston MA, was hoping for a do-over from last year. They didn’t get SummerSlam due to the pandemic, but the event was scheduled.

SummerSlam 2020 was originally scheduled to take place at the TD Garden in Boston. Fans in that area were very hopeful when Governor Charlie Baker announced new reopening guidelines for August 1st that would make SummerSlam 2021 a possibility for the city.

On August 1st, masks will no longer be needed outside and sporting events can return to full capacity. That gave a lot of hope for Boston fans that they might be in the running for SummerSlam once again. Then those hopes were dashed by Boston Mayor Kim Janey.

According to the Boston Globe, Boston Mayor Janey has announced that her city will wait three additional weeks before fully opening up per the new policy. That puts Boston’s date for a return to “normalcy” at August 23rd.

There is no official date for SummerSlam yet, but August 23rd is the second to last Monday of the month. If Boston is going to get the event, then August 29th would be the only open date left in that month. We’ll have to see what happens, but Boston might have to wait a bit before they get another large scale WWE pay-per-view.
