Kalisto was included in the recent wave of ten WWE releases. He hadn’t been used in recent memory and there was a reason for that. He rejected WWE’s plan for him and they broke up the Lucha House Party stable at his insistence.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kalisto pulled to get out of the Lucha House Party stable. Lince Dorado wanted this idea and figured that it would work “to a certain degree” and sell some merchandise, even if they weren’t being pushed.
Vince McMahon green lit the idea and they carried on with the gimmick without saying anything about getting pushed. Over time, Kalisto grew unhappy with the gimmick and he wanted to get out of the stable’s “prelim jokes.”
Kalisto kept asking out of the group and was continually told no. But Dorado asked if he and Metalik could be the team since Kalisto wanted out anyway, so they shot the angle for the split.
There was never a plan for Kalisto to feud with Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik. WWE simply took Kalisto out of the stable to “pacify” him. Dorado and Metalik remained on television where they work prelim matches, but Kalisto simply wasn’t used. Then he was released on April 15th.
