Mickie James’ name was included in a list of releases today. She was with the company for a while and it was a bit of a surprise to see her released in such a way. The company apparently had no intention of her wrestling again any time soon despite her openly saying that she wanted to compete.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that James’ age made her a “prime target” to be cut. Prior to her release she did tryout for a commentary role, but that didn’t happen for her.

Wrestling is a cosmetic business, perhaps less now than in the past in some cases and especially for women, but it still partially is. Her not being used and her age made her a prime target to be cut. She did get tryouts to be a television announcer but that didn’t go anywhere.

Mickie James’ last role for WWE was part of the NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver kickoff show. She was on commentary during one of those matches. Then she was released a couple of weeks later.
