WWE released ten Superstars from their contracts on April 15th, one year removed from the company’s last massive cuts. Some Superstars had an idea this might be coming and they asked about it only to receive a lie in response.
According to Fightful Select, word made its way around backstage in WWE “a couple of months ago” that there could be cuts. “Multiple people among the cuts” asked about whether they would be released, and they were told that they would be fine. That turned out to not be the case at all.
Multiple people among the cuts had inquired about whether or not they were on the chopping block and were told they weren’t going to be among them, only to be cut.
Another wrestler reportedly summed it up by saying, “it’s just an annual reminder that this is a company, not a family.”
We’ll have to see if WWE releases any more Superstars this week. As we previously reported, the NXT brand is expected to see some releases sometime today.
