Christian Cage made his return to the pro wrestling at the 2021 Royal Rumble match. His re-entry into sports entertainment saw him last until the final four in the match. He couldn’t come to a deal with WWE, who likely didn’t want to use him that much. AEW found a place for him.

Christian Cage was revealed as AEW’s big mystery signing. He inked a multi-year contract with the company. Cage didn’t say anything at Revolution, but his presence was felt.
During the media call following the event, Tony Khan explained that AEW’s deal with Christian came together in the last few weeks. As the Wrestling Observer noted on Twitter:
Khan said the Christian deal came up over the past few weeks. He wasn’t aware he didn’t have a contract and was interested in wrestling again. He was kicking himself for not getting him when he saw him in the RR. ^JN
We’ll have to see what kind of role Christian Cage plays in AEW. He still has a lot of gas in the tank, and his new motto to outwork everyone could mean he’ll be a real force on the company’s main event level. They also gave him the nickname “Instant Classic.”
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite could include many answers to those questions as Cage starts to fit into things.
