Bobby Lashley won the WWE Title this week on RAW, but it was quite a wait for fans who wanted to see it happen. It took Lashley 17 years to reach the mountaintop in WWE. He also had to endure a roller coaster episode of RAW as well.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed WWE’s strategy to keep fans waiting for The Miz vs Bobby Lashley. WWE’s intention was to keep fans engaged and have greater numbers tune in with each new match during the show.

“We’ll see how the rating is tomorrow. All those segments over and over again, you know in their mind why they did them, they thought they were gonna stretch [fans] out because they didn’t want — like, you can stay through hour one to get your World Title match, ah but you’re not getting it. Hour two, you’re getting your World Title match, but hour two [not getting it], well that was their strategy, so we’ll see if it works.”

WWE teased a World Title match throughout the entire three-hour broadcast, but fans did get the match with about ten minutes left to go. This was a tactic to stretch the angle for three hours, but we’ll have to see if fans stuck with it.
