India is a huge market that WWE really wants to get into, and they have good reason to be aggressive. A new report says that the company has double the viewership in India than they do in the United States.
Lucha Libre Online reports that WWE RAW’s average viewership in India for the month of Jan. 2021 was over 4 million viewers. That number doubles the amount of viewers in the United States during the same time
It was said that WWE SmackDown also averaged way more than the United States drew. The blue brand pulls down an average of 3 million viewers in India. WWE NXT has also broken the 1 million mark in viewership, something that hasn’t happened for United States viewership.
It was also reported that South Africa generally draws over 1 million viewers for WWE’s main roster programs. Canada and Germany draw around 300,000 for RAW and SmackDown.
This is a big wake up call and should be a big sign why WWE is trying so hard to establish an Indian Performance Center and foster new talent from that country. They have a lot of competition in the United States, and interest in the product seems to be dwindling. That is not the case elsewhere at all.
