The 2021 Royal Rumble match featured the return of Mickie James to the squared circle. She had been out for a while after suffering an injury, but she wanted to make a statement upon her return.

James spoke about her Royal Rumble gear on GAW TV. She wanted to present a mature “Grown Ass Woman” character at the Royal Rumble. She’s been through quite a few character changes in the company, and James wanted to make a statement at this year’s big Royal Rumble match.

I had Adolfo Canaca work and design, and we worked together to kind of designed this gear. We then obviously sent to it Rick Michaels to do a lot of the crystal and reinforce for wrestling purposes; because he usually does all my gear.”

“I had been saving [the design] for a special moment, thinking heel turn or something, just to present, to step away from the bellbottoms and step more into the grown-ass woman that I truly am. Because, I felt like, as much as I like the bellbottoms, and the flairs and all this stuff and how big it makes everything look,”

“I felt like it still made me look a bit childish in a way and it wasn’t who I was today. That evolution. I was just trying to find out how can I still embrace everything that I am and have Mickie James flair on it. I need bells and whistles. Fringe!

We’ll have to see when Mickie James shows up once again. She is not ready to be declared a Legend just yet.

Mickie James still has the ability to perform in the ring with the best of them. The big question is how WWE will use her after her reemergence at the Royal Rumble.
