WWE RAW included a surprise segment that the company did not promote. Edge cut a promo and declared his entry into the 2021 Royal Rumble match. There is a reason why they didn’t hold off for a big surprise this year.

According to Fightful Select, Edge declared his Royal Rumble entry early because there will be no live fans at the Royal Rumble. It is reported that those in the company believe that if fans were going to be in attendance then they would have held off on Edge’s announcement to get a big surprise pop.
WWE announced Edge’s return early to help drive more fans to the Royal Rumble pay-per-view and create a buzz.
We were told that if there were an actual crowd, there’s a good chance that he would have been held off. However, it was decided that Edge’s return was best served as being announced to create buzz for the Royal Rumble and help attract lapsed fans familiar with him.
We will have to see what Edge does in the Royal Rumble match. It could depend on his placement.
This is a very interesting situation as Edge re-enters WWE after making a promise to continue his storyline with Randy Orton, a Superstar who is currently deeply involve in a feud with Bray Wyatt’s Fiend and Alexa Bliss.
