AEW has been receiving a lot of praise for its variety of pro wrestling. However, nothing is perfect as the women’s division has left a lot to be desired and has been criticized on a constant basis.
The COVID-19 pandemic did no favors to the division either, as female Japanese wrestlers such as Riho have been unable to make the trip from Japan for AEW tapings.
While recently speaking to TV Insider, AEW World Champion Kenny Omega shared his thoughts on the women’s division. He was asked if the women’s division would be featured more on television.
Omega noted that the company is taking baby steps as far as improving the women’s division is concerned. Omega then said that the roster keeps getting better and continues to work hard to make sure they get more time on television.
“I think we are taking baby steps. We have hungry performers who are passionate about getting a chance to do their best. Passion speaks to me more than the performance of a maneuver, and right now, our women are really chomping at the bit to get these TV spots.
“They’re all training hard. Our roster keeps getting better. [No one has] lost their passion. They are still striving for that big goal, which is for the women’s division to get more time. I’ll have the biggest smile on my face the day we get it. I know we will.”
Kris Statlander also recently talked about the present condition of the AEW women’s divison.
We will have to see how the company will be able to improve the women’s division and make it comparable to the men’s.
