Goldberg returned to WWE, and he was immediately put in a title match situation months before WrestleMania 37. Some fans were very happy about this, but others rolled their eyes. The same mixed reaction has come out of the pro wrestling community as well.
Finn Balor is happy to see Goldberg’s return. The NXT Champion will defend his title against Kyle O’Reilly at NXT New Year’s Evil, but he’s also apparently excited to see Goldberg vs Drew McIntyre.
While speaking to Metro, Finn Balor said that the Legends carved the path he is walking on today. He said it’s good to have Goldberg on the show and Balor welcomes legends coming in.
‘Those guys have carved out their legacy and proven over the years that they belong on the show. Whether it’s for one night or it’s every night, that doesn’t affect me and it shouldn’t affect anyone else.’
‘For me, when the tide comes in, all the ships rise,’ he said. If we can have Goldberg on the show, if we can have anyone on the show for one night, I feel it’s better one night than never. I welcome these legends with open arms!’
Balor was able to craft his answer in a way that did not address how WWE is booking Goldberg. His return isn’t the issue so much as how he is being used. Sting’s name even trended on social media as a fierce conversation was sparked about the difference between AEW and WWE.
We will have to see how the Royal Rumble turns out on January 31st, but nobody saw this match coming. As we previously reported, WWE made the call over the weekend to pair Goldberg with Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble.
