The Undertaker had a legendary career that spanned thirty years and many generations. It is well-known that he and Vince McMahon have a very good relationship as they are great friends.
Prior to joining WWE, The Undertaker worked in WCW, where he was not utilized well at all. On a recent episode of his Something to Wrestle podcast, Bruce Prichard revealed that he and Vince McMahon were certain that The Deadman would not have jumped ship to WCW during the height of the Monday Night Wars.
During the 90s the financial condition of WWE was not well and WCW poached talents from WWE by offering a lot of money. However, they never were able to entice The Undertaker.
Prichard said that WCW wouldn’t know what to do with The Phenom. He added that without his Undertaker gimmick, Mark Calaway would have returned to his Mean Mark character, which would not have been the best thing for him.
“I was confident that Undertaker was a WWE lifer. I believe that Vince was so confident that Undertaker was a WWE lifer. It was just timing and I don’t know that WCW would know what the hell to do with him. You take him out of the gimmick and you go back to Mean Mark and I truly believe that the Undertaker was such a strong character that you wanted to keep that aura. You wanted to keep that mystery. You wanted to make sure that’s what the audience wanted. I think that’s what everybody wanted”
Till the end The Undertaker remained loyal to Vince McMahon, no matter what. The Phenom hanged up his boots at Survivor Series last month. We will have to see what he does next.
