As seen earlier this year on the special 3:16 episode of WWE RAW, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was featured in a segment with Byron Saxton, where he cut a promo, drank beer and delivered a Stunner.
While appearing on the The Pat McAfee Show, Steve Austin revealed what he had originally planned for the segment with Byron Saxton. Austin said that he wanted to have a sit-down interview with Saxton instead.
Steve Austin mentioned that he was displeased with the script for the segment and asked Vince McMahon multiple times if he could have the script changed.
However, due to the date of that episode of RAW, it was being promoted as Austin 3:16 Day. Initially, Steve Austin was going to have his segment in front of a live crowd of fans. Then the COVID-19 pandemic took place and plans were scrapped. The segment was ultimately filmed at WWE’s Performance Center, which was empty.
“It was really strange and I wasn’t happy with the creative because I wanted to sit down and maybe do an interview with Byron Saxton or something to talk about something that was a shoot. Vince says, ‘God damn, Steve, people are just gonna be in a bad way. Go out there and entertain them and do this promo.’ I went back to his trailer three times. So, anyway, I ended up doing the promo, it s*cked, it was hard.”
After Steve Austin hit a Stone Cold Stunner on Saxton in the final segment, he then shared beers with Becky Lynch, who was the WWE RAW Women’s Champion back then.
