WWE had to nix their weekly RAW Underground segments because they didn’t want contamination across the three brands. Superstars from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT were needed to pull off the idea. The segment was gaining momentum, and some fans really enjoyed the worked shoot matches on Monday nights. Vince Russo seemed to enjoy them too.
On the most recent episode of Legion Of RAW, Vince Russo revealed that he was emailing Shane McMahon about the RAW Underground concept. He said that McMahon seemed very happy about the idea and “gung ho” to make it happen.
Shane goes on TV, Spaldings to the wall, gives it his all, I mean like a lunatic. I gotta be honest with you, I was kind of emailing with Shane [McMahon] when this first started and he was asking me what I thought about it and he was gung ho on this idea.
We’ll have to see if the RAW Underground idea comes back in a few months as the pandemic slowly diminishes. The idea certainly captured the WWE Universe’s attention for a while. It was also a new platform to debut Superstars from NXT who were previously stuck in creative limbo.
Shane McMahon hasn’t been seen on WWE television since RAW Underground stopped. Perhaps he would be game to make a return and revive the segment when the time is right?
