AEW’s Original Plan For Kenny Omega Heel Turn

AEW had a lot of plans that needed to change during the pandemic. One plan is now coming to light as Kenny Omega is now a heel and World Champion. This was a long time coming.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that the original idea for the current storyline with Omega was suggested by Don Callis. This was back when Kenny Omega and Adam Page started their tag team. The plan was for Page to become a heel, but it was changed due to the audience’s reaction.

AEW saw that the team was getting over, and they wanted to use it as more than just a chance to break them up and elevate Hangman Page. The COVID-19 pandemic also delayed the start of this angle that we are now seeing play out.

Impact Wrestling now has an invading force in the form of Kenny Omega. It appears that they are already laying the groundwork for a future World Title match with The Cleaner.

Don Callis took a lot of credit for this angle during Impact Wrestling and AEW Dynamite. That was apparently a lot more of a shoot than some fans first thought.
