AEW had a ton of plans for 2020, but then the pandemic swept the country and changed everything around. FTR’s arrival in AEW meant that they could finally have a rivalry with the Young Bucks, but the Jackson brothers wanted to wait for live fans.
While speaking to Wrestling Observer Radio, The Young Bucks explained that they don’t know how long the pandemic will continue to mess up their plans. They wanted to wait for an FTR feud, but they couldn’t hold off any longer.
Tony Khan then decided that they didn’t need to wait to hold that long-awaited match.
“You don’t want to save everything especially in this pandemic era. We were trying to save things like the FTR match. We were trying to milk that until we got fans back into the building but at one point, we were like, we don’t know when the world is going to get back together. We can’t hold this anymore. Tony (Khan) said, ‘We are doing it. We have to do it.’ He booked it for Full Gear.”
FTR lost to the Young Bucks at Full Gear, but those two are likely not through feuding with each other. This is a rivalry that was over five years in the making and they couldn’t hold off on bringing that match to fans, especially during such uncertain times.
