WWE had to cancel several plans because of the COVID-19 pandemic which included bringing in James Storm. This was a plan that recently came to light.
James Storm recently said in an interview that there were plans to bring him straight to Raw after WrestleMania. That was nixed because of the pandemic. Storm was all set up and ready to make a jump to WWE with the NWA even agreeing to let him out of his deal early.
Ringside News has learned that this story is 100% true, and we have new details. The Cowboy was set to skip NXT and go straight to the red brand, but he wouldn’t have received the spotlight some fans would have wanted for him.
A tenured member of the creative team told us that Storm “was being brought in as enhancement talent.” Paul Heyman was looking for qualified enhancement people, and Storm was being brought in “under that guise.”
It was made very clear that the intentions for Storm as an enhancement talent didn’t mean he couldn’t have risen up the ranks in WWE. They wanted to initially bring him in because he was a “credible worker who could work as enhancement talent” at first.
It looks like a Beer Money reunion wasn’t on WWE’s immediate agenda.
